Shoes for the Grup
What's a Grup? Well, Shoeguy is sort of a grup. The main difference is that while a Grup will drop a few hundred bucks on jeans that look like they aren't worth 10 bucks, Shoeguy will drop 10 bucks on jeans that look like they are worth 10 bucks.
So really what is a Grup? Think "I don't wanna grow up, I'm a Toys R Us kid" crossed with "Holy Shit, I woke up this morning and I was 35. This is just a bad dream, right?"
How to spot a Grup - look for a guy (or girl) who should be wearing a suit, but instead he is wearing jeans, sporting a bad case of bed head and going for the heroin-chic look.
For some background on Grups, read UP WITH GRUPS -New York Magazine.
What's Shoelover's point..........Shoeguy needs new shoes, he actually wore sandals to work today ("My feet need to breath", he complains.) so Shoelover decided to give him a few pointers........
For the Grup that is going through a brown phase and does a lot of walking,
Shoelover suggests something along the lines of the Men's Allrounder by Mephisto Record, its functional (for those Grups who actually have to be productive) and at under $200, it isn't too pricey.
If you are the type of Grup who likes things that look like they go fast, then the Alfani "Racer" Athletic Shoe at $52 is for you. Not quite sure what sort of "Athletics" you are supposed to do in these, but Shoelover will leave that up to you.
Or if you are into a canvas frame mind, then the $70 Diesel "Rodby" canvas lace up is right up your alley.
Now for god's sake Shoeguy, go get some shoes.............you have 10 minutes.
xoxo

Some people (New Yorkers.........did I just say that) feel the need to catagorize everyone.
For me, the most annoying part of the article was discussing how people spend a lot of money to look like they are 20 years old again.......

Love the shoes. Hate the GRUP article. Does New York Magazine have nothing better to write about?

I certainly hope Shoeguy took Shoelover's advice and had his tootsies pedicured before slipping into his 'summer soles'! (see PuntaCana Fashion Week article from Feb/06) What is it about men (and women) who think that feet can go from socks(?) and shoes or boots to total exposure in sandals without benefit of proper foot care?? Pumice anyone??
