A day in high heels can really bring you down
The "Sex and the City" girls are stomping all over the city in their sky-high Manolos once again, and New York's hottest shoe stores are filled with some of the highest heels we've ever seen.
With some measuring almost 5 inches, the real question is, just how far through a regular day can a gal really get in these torture devices?
The allure of a longer leg certainly made it worth a try.
But with a daily commute to the office, dogwalking and a downtown dinner at STK all on my agenda, I hoped I wouldn't liter-ally be falling for sexpot stilettos before the end of the day.
Walking tall, my towering new pumps certainly drew stares while I
commuted to the office, though I got more looks of pity than I did of
admiration, especially when faced with stairs, sidewalk grates and a
complete inability to bust moves any faster than a cautious totter.
As the desire to throw them off for good gained momentum, a blistered toe, curiously achy knees and lower back, and numb toes had me feeling even sorrier for myself.
The verdict? These shoes may indeed be the fast track to glamour on even the most mundane of days. But make sure they're always accompanied by a big enough bag to throw in a pair of emergency flats before you even think about stepping out the door.
8:15 a.m.: WALKING THE DOG. Shuffling along behind an eager pup wasn't much fun for either of us. I had to head home long before my companion was ready.
9:15 a.m.: NOT GOING GRATE New York's sidewalks turned into an assault course, proving stiletto heels and street grates just don't mix (continued...)

Shoelover isn't very well versed in the whole "Hello Kitty" fetish subculture, other than Shoelover knows that
Shoelover is not alone in the dislike of "Hello Kitty".
Especially this little number..........a glass slipper
Shoelover, who usually isn't one for spewing bile, may have a new motto - "Death to the Kitty!!!"

Samsonite diversifies into shoes; eyes watches
LUGGAGE
BRAND Samsonite has been gradually taking steps towards related
diversification to offset the adverse effect of 9/11 and the SARS
epidemic, which hit travel and sales of travel gear and luggage.
After a three-year satisfactory performance of its shoes business in Italy, the company is now looking at strategically important markets like India and Korea for similar foray.
Ramesh Tainwala, president, Samsonite South Asia, said: “We are
diversifying from a luggage to a lifestyle brand and may look at an
entry into travel-related categories like eyewear, perfumeries and
watches in future.” The company is hoping the strategy would help it
reduce its reliance on the luggage business, he added.
The diversification strategy is to ensure that in a period of three to five years, turnover from the core business should be reduced to 50 per cent of the total turnover.
The shoes range will be available under the “Samsonite Classic” and the Samsonite Black Label” brands. “Samsonite Classic will be available between Rs 4,000 and Rs 6,500, while Samsonite Black Label will have a price range of Rs 10000 to Rs 20000,” said Nikhil Gupte, Business Manager, Footwear Division, Samsonite South Asia (continued...)

If the shoe doesn't fit ... make your own
There are at least two occasions in every woman's life when she wants to feel like a princess: her senior prom and her wedding day.
If you wear a size 10 shoe or larger, the lack of shoe choices can
leave you feeling more like an ugly stepsister than Cinderella, though.
And 27-year-old entrepreneur Kathryn Kerrigan has felt your pain.
Literally.
"I wear a size 11, but I never realized I even had a problem until I had to dress up for prom," she recalls. "I dragged my dad to every mall in the Chicago area and the only thing we could find was a $300 pair of Stuart Weitzman shoes that were out of my price range and more suited for a woman in her 50s than for a prom."
Yet according to Kerrigan, a recent survey showed that 30 percent of women in the United States wear a shoe size of 9 or larger.
"You're lucky if you can find the one size 11 that a store does carry," Kerrigan says. "And it's usually in some random color that no one has in the closet."
It's something she was able to commiserate over with her fellow teammates while playing basketball at Lake Forest College. Three years ago, she had a breakdown and an epiphany while working on her MBA at Loyola: Just because the shoe fits, doesn't mean you should wear it.
"I had to go to a wedding and I couldn't find anything that matched my dress," she says.
Kerrigan finally had had enough and took matters into her own hands. If no one in the shoe industry was going to make a dress shoe that would fit her, she'd do it herself.
With that, the Libertyville resident started her own shoe business, Kathryn Kerrigan Inc., and began designing women's premium evening shoes in larger sizes.
Her sole purpose is to offer more elegant and fashionable choices to women like herself. Her line includes a selection of sandals, flats, pumps and slingbacks. The majority are in sizes 10-14, although she offers some as small as 6. They range in price from $44 for a matte white leather dress pump to $244 for a chocolate-colored suede short boot (continued...)
