Fat Lawyers....

Around the dinner table............while everyone was completely sober, except Shoelover:

Shoelover's Father in Law (SFIL): You know what, all Lawyers are fat and unhealthy
Shoelover: That is a bit of a generalization dont you think?
SFIL: Well, look at all the lawyers we know, they are fat, unhealthy and unhappy.
Shoelover: And how many lawyers do you know
SFIL: Well we were at the XXXX's party last week, and all the people there were lawyers and they were fat and unhealthy
Shoelover: I am willing to bet that for each of the "fat" lawyers you know, I know three who aren't.   Have you ever considered that all of your friends are just fat and unhealthy?
SFIL: Um no
Shoelover: So based on some anecdotal data and uncontrolled observations using a potentially non representative and non random sample of the population you are looking to study , you are trying to make an empirical conclusion.
SFIL: HUH?
Shoelover: Exactly..........
