Shoelover took the day off today...and by taking the day off I mean, I did nothing but drink copious amounts of Starbucks while walking the dog on the beach. Normally, when I walk the dog, I wear a pair of thong/flip flops but this morning it was brrr cold so I donned my running shoes. Yes, Shoelover keeps two pairs of running shoes: one in my gym locker (so it NEVER gets dirty) and the second stays near the door for those cool mornings when I need to walk the dog. This was on of those mornings. It was 12C (53F) degrees in Toronto. It warmed up as the day progressed, but it was too late -- I was too far from home to turn around and put on sandals. That being said, I sometimes prefer wearing runners on the beach -- you never know what you could step on. However, I did glance some other women in their flip flops for one last hurrah and I was jealous.
I wouldn't pine for summer so much if Toronto experienced a long, mild autumn -- which we never do. It seems to last a couple of weeks and then it snows. And snows. And snows some more. And just when you think it's going to melt, it rains and freezes into black ice that never seems to come off the bottom of the car.
So I must bid summer shoes farewell. Tomorrow, I will take all my open toed lovelies to the shoe cleaners and have them fixed up to be put away in my clear shoe boxes until the day after the snow melts. Bye bye Ferragamo, Miu Miu, Prada. Arrivederci fancy Italian pair I bought at that by-invitation-only couture sale. Sleep well. You have served me well. Tomorrow, I shall break out my Manolo sling-backs from last winter and place them on top of the clear shoe box pile. I'll start thinking of my leopard print Sandros and my favorite pair of Oscar de la Renta boots when I get dressed in the morning. My beautifully pedicured feet will hibernate for awhile. They'll be back in a few months. Until then....
xoxo Shoelover
P.S.- Okay, Shoelover lied: I do have a third pair of running shoes. They are a former dog walking pair at the back of my closet reserved for the highly unlikely scenario that I may engage in manual labor of some sort (painting, cleaning, et.) That being said, I haven't touched them in year. And for those of you that care, I wear Saucony running shoes.
